Dr. Charlene E. McEvoy is a dedicated physician, educator, and researcher specializing in pulmonary and sleep medicine. In addition to treating patients, she serves as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota, the Co-Medical Director of the Asthma Center, Medical Director of Regions Sleep Health Center, and a Senior Research Investigator with the Health Partners Institute. Her expertise focuses on airway diseases such as asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis and complex sleep conditions, particularly those stemming from neuromuscular disorders.
Dr. McEvoy began her academic journey earning a Bachelor of Science in English Literature with a minor in Chemistry from Marquette University before completing her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. She went on to complete her internal medicine residency, where she served as Chief Resident, followed by a fellowship in pulmonary critical care. During her fellowship, she also earned a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology from the University of Minnesota affiliated hospitals. She is board-certified in internal, pulmonary and sleep medicine.
Beyond her clinical and academic roles, Dr. McEvoy is actively involved in medical research and advocacy. She is a board member of the American Lung Association's local chapter and a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the American Thoracic Society, and the American College of Chest Physicians (Fellow). She serves as an advisor on the Minnesota Department of Health Long Covid Guiding Counsel and Minnesota Asthma Alliance (MAA).
Dr. McEvoy is equally dedicated to community service. She actively volunteers with the Minnesota Boat Club, an amateur athletic organization, and served on the board of Wilderness Inquiry, Star Swim Club and The Schubert Club. Additionally, she is a member of President of the Parents Advisory Council for Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota.
As she looks to the future, Dr. McEvoy remains committed to advancing patient care, expanding research in asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis and sleep disorders, and mentoring the next generation of medical professionals.
