The Government of Canada issues a statement to mark the Mid-Autumn Festival.

OTTAWA, ON, Sept. 25, 2026 /CNW/ -- The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Canadian Identity and Heritage and Minister responsible for Official Languages, made the following statement:

"Today, in Canada and around the world, more than a billion people celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, a tradition deeply rooted in many cultures of East and Southeast Asia.

For generations, this celebration has been a special time to gather with family and friends, express gratitude, and celebrate the bonds that unite us. Under the light of the full moon, people gather with family and friends to share mooncakes and other traditional foods, light lanterns and celebrate traditions that have been passed down from one generation to the next.

Also known as the Moon Festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival is traditionally associated with the full moon, family reunions and the harvest. While the ways of celebrating may vary from one community to another, the values this celebration embodies are universal: family, gratitude for life, the passing of knowledge from one generation to the next, and the importance of sharing. These values are also at the heart of what it means to be Canadian. They remind us that our diversity brings us together, enriches our culture, and strengthens our shared sense of belonging.

To everyone celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival, I offer my best wishes for happiness, health and prosperity. May this year's celebrations be filled with light, joy and precious moments shared with loved ones.
