NEW YORK CITY, Sept. 22, 2026 /CNW/ -- Today, the Prime Minister, Mark Carney, met with His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan, on the margins of the 81^st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The leaders discussed the situation in the Middle East, including the conflict between the United States and Iran, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, settlement expansion and rising violence in the West Bank, along with broader tensions across the region. They emphasised the imperative of protecting civilians, preventing further escalation, and maintaining regional stability.

The Prime Minister underscored Canada's appreciation for Jordan's leadership in promoting regional stability and delivering humanitarian assistance to Gaza. He reaffirmed Canada's unwavering support for a negotiated two-state solution to secure lasting peace in the region, and highlighted Canada's contributions to supporting the needs of the more than 3 million people in Palestine who urgently require assistance. The Prime Minister and His Majesty also agreed to deepen defence collaboration.
